In October, I attended the annual meeting of an organization known as the Association of American Clubs (AAC) in Bogota. The Association has been in existence for six years and now includes 37 clubs from around the world. The meeting of club presidents included two days of business plus an invitation to attend the Bogota Club's annual Black & White formal ball which was held at the American Ambassador's residence (sound familiar?).
Most of the business meetings were focused on writing and approving by-laws and the necessary paperwork to create a legal entity in the U.S. We also spent time talking about the future direction of AAC which may include a focus on helping an international charity.
I am happy to report that your ACAP compares very favorably with other clubs in terms of number of members and variety of activities. We are the only American-Canadian club but many of the other club presidents wondered why they had not though of doing something similar with their clubs. The only area where I thought ACAP came up a little short is in social outreach. Virtually all the other clubs have a charity focus and many do a really terrific job of helping local organizations. I hope that we can expand our efforts of ACAP in 2010.
