The colourful and lively people of Peru are known for their love of Soccer ( Futbol). Volleyball is also a very popular sport, and bullfighting is arguably the most enjoyed of the traditional sports. But, in a country that possesses such a diverse landscape and climate, what other sports are available to Peruvians?

Surfing In Peru

In almost every website that Google offers about surfing in Peru, it is mentioned that the country is blessed with a coast that offers guaranteed surf 365 days a year, and that characteristic is what attracts tourists and locals alike to this thrilling ocean sport.

From novices to the Sofia Mulanovich's of Peru, from the beginner to intermediate breaks of Mancora to the difficult breaks of Cabo Blanco, this country boasts surfs for every different level, and has breaks of every size, and every type. The truly brave travel to Huanchaco (north of Trujillo), home to the world's longest wave, Chicama, which stretches over 4kms! With such a variety of waves, it's no surprise that Mancora hosted the Mancora Peru Surf classic surfing completion in 2007 and that surfcamps and surfing holidays called “surfaris” are offered to tourists in Peru.

Fishing in Peru

Because Peru is blessed country, possessing a majority of all the major microclimates, it is considered a dream destination for fisherman. Ernest Hemingway used to go often to fish in the Northern beaches, and Peru has a large percentage of all the Flaura and Fauna in the world. Deep sea fishing for Black Marlin, and Yellow Fin Tuna is possible offshore along the northern coast of Peru and inshore the northern mangrove swamps you can find Sea bass, Snook, and Grouper. The Southern coast of Peru is characterized by cold waters, and is a great spot for fishing from the shore or rocky cliffs for Flounder, Sea Bass, and other species such as Chita.

The Andean mountains are considered a great habitat for Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. These specimens can weigh more than 7 kilos and have been captures in lakes, flyfishing and spinfishing. In the Amazon Jungle and Amazon Basin , which comprises almost 75% of Peru's land mass, Fishermen can fish for Peacock Bass, Giant Oscars, Surubi, Zungaro, and Payara, considered one of the world's best fresh water trophy fish.

Adventure Sports

Magical Cusco Tours asserts there are many adventure sports that are becoming popular in Peru as well. Paragliding schools offer incredible views by flying over the Sacred Valley of the Incas, or soaring over the beaches of Miraflores, or the snowy peaks in Huaraz. Palestra, or Indoor climbing, has also become popular in Lima, with several schools renting out climbing walls and offering lessons. For those more inclined to keep their feet on the ground, Trekking is a good option. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of this rich country through the most popular trek in Peru, the Inca Trail in Cusco, which can also be done on Horseback.
