(Pastor) Gary and Marlene Van Brocklin who have spent the last twenty months here in Lima guiding the Union Church are turning over a new leaf. As of September they will both be professors at Montreat College in Ashville North Carolina, a small college often referred to as a mountain retreat.
It's been a varied trek that takes them to Montreat. They met during their college years in California. Marlene was a California gal and Gary had come from the then territory of Hawaii.
Early in their marriage Gary began his missionary work which called them to, among other places, Le Paz, Bolivia and a stint in Peru. Their daughter, Analise, was born in Peru and spent much of her childhood here.
While their new life includes teaching such profound subjects as Cross Cultural Work & Religion and Interdisciplinary Studies, he will still have time to preach at one of the many small churches in the region.
In a strange twist of fate, while we bid farewell to Gary and Marlene Van Brocklin, we will soon be welcoming Analise Van Brocklin. She has resigned from her teaching position in Oregon to return to Peru.
And so, it's goodbye, hello and all good wishes to the Van Brocklins. Our prayers are with you.
