Peruano Británico School
IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Colegio Peruano Británico has been an IB World School since 1999. The school is now in the process of implementing the PYP and the MYP.
In the Primary School, classes from Nursery to grade 5 are investigating units of inquiry driven by student questions and lines of inquiry through the PYP. The themes being explored at present include recycling, electricity, authors and illustrators and plants.
In grade 4 the students have been examining the amount of waste around the school and educating the school community on recycling. They are advocating the mantra of reduce, reuse and recycle. As a part of this investigation the students recently visited the Surco recycling station, where they were able to ask questions and seek answers to their concerns about waste in the local area.
We look forward to the leaders of the future developing strategies to help our planet.
Mothers's Day Concert
On Friday May 4th, the students from the Primary and Secondary school will be presenting a concert to honour and entertain their mothers. The evening's entertainment, starting at 6.30pm will include choirs, dance and musical performances from many parts of Peru. The event is one that is eagerly anticipated as the students put their best foot forward to showcase their talents for their families. It is a fitting way to end the first bimester. Happy Mothers' Day to all mums you really deserve it.
San Silvestre School
Record Results
The academic year of 2007 has started very well indeed, with record results for both IB and IGCSE.
In the IB examinations, Carolina Carbone gained the top score of 45 points. In addition to perfect 7s in all her courses, she also scored A for her Extended Essay and A for Theory of Knowledge the first girl in Peru to achieve this. Apart from 100% passes, almost 90% achieved 30 plus points.
In the IGCSE examinations set by the University of Cambridge, once again there were record-breaking results. Compared to the world average, San Silvestre students have shone, with 84% high grades comparing more than favourably with the 38% worldwide and 33% top grades (A* and A) compared to 12% worldwide.
Infrastructure Renovations
With the additional space acquired this year, a great deal of work is being done to accommodate the increased numbers in the Infant Section, as well as a new library, art room, interview rooms and other areas.

Roosevelt School
DO YOU KNOW WHAT COLEGIO ROOSEVELT'S 8TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE DOING?
Our 8th grade students are working hard on a culminating Middle School project dedicated to problem solving and service. Called Community Focus (CoFo), this educational journey asks students to identify and solve real problems in today's Peru, allowing these 13 and 14-year-olds a firsthand opportunity to understand how powerful their ideas and actions can be. This project is aligned with our Strategic Objective which expects that all students will choose to serve.
The Community Focus Projects take place over two-plus months in the second semester of 8th grade. Students divide into groups of three to five. Once formed, the group comes together to identify a social problem in Lima, research it and develop viable and sustainable solutions. In order to help them as they work, each group has a mentor either a parent or a volunteer from the community. Over the years our students have developed a large number of projects such as building a kitchen that today serves 120 children in Manchay; working with elementary school children at the San Marcos School to improve literacy by donating over 272 books in English and Spanish; working with community members in the Municipalidad de Ventanilla to plant trees; converting a donated bus into a traveling library for the Villa El Salvador community; and creating a hydroponic garden at Colegio de Manchay in order to grow food to help feed the 400 children who attend the school. Our CoFo presentations are scheduled for the end of May. For more information, please contact Marilyn Holladay at mhollada@amersol.edu.pe
