School News

International Christian School of Lima

The International Christian School of Lima is one of the few American schools in Lima; as such our new school year begins on August 7. As an international school we accept applications any time of year so it is not too late to register your child in our preschool, elementary or secondary programs.

There are many exciting activities planned for this year. We are having an "Open House" on August 15 from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm. Please come by to see our school and meet our teaching staff who are all US certified teachers. Parent teacher conferences will be held on September 13 from 12:30 until 4:30. Spiritual Emphasis Week will be from September 12 22. Everyone is welcome to participate in all the different activities planned for this week. Please call (442-4169) or email (ics_lima@hotmail.com) us for more information. You may go on our website (icslima.org) and download the school calendar to see the dates for all the stimulating events planned for this school year.

Peruano Británico School

Debates
As the semester ends at CPB, we look back at just a few of our achievements in the field of language development. For the first time the school has fielded some very young English language debating teams as part of the debating league of the National Association of Debating of Peru. We now have inter-school debating teams of students of ten and eleven years old!

Visit to Westfalia Orphanage
Our fourth graders went on a trip to Westfalia in Cieneguilla. Westfalia is a very special place that looks after orphans from 8 months to 18 years of age. The children who live there invited us to come and spend some time with them. Some students from IB2 were the mentors. The children of Westfalia showed us their homes, their school and their farm. Our children reinforced their Unit of Inquiry about rearing animals in Peru so visiting the farm was helpful for their research. All the children in Westfalia do chores, so when our children were there they had to do chores too. It was great! The children also had the opportunity to do other activities such as shoemaking, cookery, handicrafts, sewing and gardening. Our children won't forget their trip to Westfalia soon.

Upcoming Events: Writing Competition
For the third year the Bilingual Schools Creative Writing Competition will be held at CPB on 1st September. So far there are ten schools competing. Any school wishing to compete should contact Jonathon Shaw at the school.

Applications
We are still in the process of receiving applications forms from Nursery to IB Two. If you wish to know more about our school, don't hesitate to contact us at 436-0151 or at www.britishschool.edu.pe

Markham College

This year 2006, Markham College proudly celebrates its 60th Anniversary (1946-2006). Markham College was originally founded as a British boys' boarding school in 1946, with the idea being that many parents would send their sons to boarding school in England once they were old enough. Six decades later, the Markham of today is a co-educational school on two campuses. whereby all students flourish in a blend of both British and Peruvian traditions. There are students from many different countries at Markham, but most are Peruvian, learning to develop a truly international perspective whilst being encouraged to identify with, be loyal to, and want to serve Peru as best they can.

Week-long celebrations will take place during late September, involving current and past parents, alumni (Old Markhamians), students and staff. The work of current students and well-known Old Markhamian cultural personalities such as Sr. Carlos Runcie Tanaka and Ronny Alhalel will be on display during this week. Movie director Luis Llosa, also an Old Markhamian, will make a special appearance. Football, hockey, and rugby matches will take place, along with other sporting events such as inter-prom fulbito championships, and a 5K Marathon. Separate Open Days will take place in Early Years, Lower School and Upper School. There will be a suitable social celebration to bring the week's events to a rousing conclusion on the final Saturday.

We thank all of those who have been a part of Markham College during the past 60 years tradition and we look forward to seeing you come back to school! For further information about any of these events scheduled, please contact Mr. Nicolas Rovegno at rovegno@markham.edu.pe.
