March Restaurant Night
at the Laeñe Restaurante
Av. Dos de Mayo 220, Miraflores
This one is not to be missed. An amazing restaurant, with authentic Spanish food that is reputed to be the best in Lima, the Laeñe Restaurante is owned and run by very charming Spaniards.
We will start the evening off with our ubiquitous Pisco sour in the traditional bar, where we will also be served Tapas. Tapas (covers or tops) get their name because they were originally a cut of ham or sausage or a piece of cheese that covered the glass or mug to keep out the bugs. Such a practical idea… though perhaps lacking in hygiene. But you must admit they had their priorities straight - save the wine.
The cost of the meal is s/.60 per member, s/.65 per non member. Corcho libre as usual, but if you forget to bring your own bottle of wine, watch out because they have Spanish wines to tempt the angels themselves.
The menu will consist of various appetizers, including smoked ham croquettes, the traditional potato omelette, deep fried smelts (pejerreyes) with tartar sauce, roast beef rolled with arugula and mixed vegetable in a vinegrette sauce and raviolis filled with meat and piquillo peppers in a soy-based sauce.
To clean your palate, and for your enjoyment, a spot of champagne mixed with fruit juice between courses, and then comes the paella, either a chicken with mixed vegetables or a seafood variety. It makes my mouth water just writing it… I suppose I can inveigle the chef, Israel, to use some of our peppers and tomatoes to make a salad for those who would like one.
I still have to decide on the dessert. Coffee and water or soft drink are included in the price. Valet parking. Call the ACAP office at 222-6359, or write to office@acap-peru.org for more information and reservations.
