Candidates for ACAP Officers 2006

The “official” slate of candidates, which includes many ACAP officers and directors from the past year, is shown below. Nominations for alternate candidates may be made by members present at the meeting, and election ballots will be distributed to all qualified members.

President

The Very Reverend John H. Park is Dean of the Anglican Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Miraflores. He was born in 1945 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, of an American father and Canadian mother. He grew up in Beaver Falls, spending every summer in Harbourville, Nova Scotia, close to his mother's home. He received his BA from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, and his AM from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He attended Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and received his MDiv from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, Texas.

While in seminary he helped to found and pastor what is today the Church of San Francisco de Asís, Austin, Texas. After ordination, he served on the staff of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas, and the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, Abilene, Texas. From 1985 to 2003 he served as a missionary in Honduras, opening seven churches in that time and serving for the last 12 years as Archdeacon of Honduras.

Since August of last year he has been Dean of the Good Shepherd. He has served on the Boards of Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, El Hogar Ministries (which he served as president), Honduras Hope Foundation (vice-president) and is currently the vice-president of the Board of the Anglican Diocese of Peru. Dean Park is married to Susan Delgado-Park, and they have two sons, Robert (19) and James (16), both of whom are with them in Lima.

Vice President

Jim Louttit, a native of Canada, has been living in Lima since January 2003, after arriving from El Salvador where he spent 2 1/2 years. Jim is a vice president with Scotiabank, and a member of the Board of Directors of Banco Sudamericano, their local partner. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Scotiabank Sud Americano in Chile and Scotiabank de Costa Rica, S.A. in Costa Rica. Jim has been a member of ACAP since April 2003 and a member of our Board since October 2003. He has also been on the Board of Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú since March 2003, and the Board of the Rotary Club - Lima Sunrise since April 2005. On the more personal side, Jim's two greatest passions are: number one, his granddaughter, whom he doesn't get to see enough of (she lives in Canada); and number two, in his spare time (whenever that may be), Jim enjoys getting out on the links for a game of golf.

Treasurer

Tom Findley grew up in the U.S., Venezuela and Peru. He went to high school in the U.S. and graduated from Roanoke College in 1970 with a degree in business administration.

Tom joined Asarco Inc. in 1971, working in numerous locations, and became treasurer in 1990. He began regular travel to Peru in 1991, and in 1999 became chief financial officer of Southern Peru Copper Corporation, but shortly thereafter, the company came under new ownership and Tom found himself out of work.

He decided not to return to the corporate world, but to stay in Lima. After a short-lived effort at consulting, together with Gord Sanford, in 2002 Tom started a business in Lima to export high-end Peruvian arts and crafts to the U.S. and also opened a store in Tucson called Silver Llama Andean Designs. In early 2003,Tom also accepted the position of chief financial officer of Peru Copper Inc., a Canadian company that has the rights to the Toromocho copper deposit, and in October 2004, Tom took the company public on the Toronto stock exchange.

Tom has two children, Jackson (26) and Dan (23). His hobbies include travel, tennis, and publishing an annual dining guide called the Silver Llama Guide.

Directors

Richard J. Ajello was born in 1922 in New York City. He attended Columbia University at night until Nov. 1942, when he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force until discharged in October 1945. After the war, he earned a degree in International Relations and French at Carleton College, where he met his future Peruvian wife, leaving for Lima, where he was married in 1948.

Following a stint with a radio station in New York, he returned to Peru in May 1953, where he founded Telemusica S.A., dedicated to functional background music and sophisticated sound system installations. In 1960, he put Lima's first F.M. Radio Station on the air, Stereolima 100 F.M., and conducted his own program in English, Great Moments of Comedy, heard every Sunday morning at 10:30 A.M. In June 1994, he founded Instituto Tecnologico Orson Welles offering 3 years of studies in technical sound engineering.

Richard has been a board member of AmCham, ICPNA and The American Society, and belongs to the Country Club of Villa, Club de la Banca and The Lima Golf Club. He has been condecorated by the governments of France, Poland, and Bulgaria, and has twice been condecorated by the Asociation de Radio y Televisión del Perú for his invaluable contribution to the development of Radio and Television in Peru.

Sara Costa is a native of Lima and a naturalized U.S. Citizen. She is an experienced English as a Second Language Teacher who has worked both in Lima and in the United States. Sara presently works as an ESL teacher in Colegio Roosevelt Middle School. She graduated from Instituto Pedagógico Nacional, a Peruvian Teacher College, as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher and received a Master's in Education at Michigan State University. She is also a published co-author of a series for teaching English as a Foreign Language to children for Editorial Bruño, a local publisher. She is married and has 3 sons. Sara has been an active member of ACAP, a volunteer for the 4th of July picnic and Colegio Roosevelt's correspondent for the ACAP Newsletter.

Connie Estrada has been a director of the Association before, from 1982-1992 when she served as the Welfare Chairman. She is a nurse at the Health Clinic at the US Embassy since 1976. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and has 3 sons, who all reside in the United States. Her husband, Julio, works for PetroPeru.

David Jesson is a native of Los Angeles who has had a long and varied career that began in the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1980, then lead him to work with Atlantic Aviation Management from 1980 to 1995, when he was also at Creative Cooking Schools, worked as a private caterer and as an Engine Captain at the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Department. In 1999, David earned a BA in Ministry Development at GWWM Bible College. Since moving to Peru in 2001, he has founded the NGO Dream Center Peru - Mission Center and Leadership School, and established the Lima International Church, where he is currently Senior Pastor.

David plans on living permanently in Peru, and has been a member of the ACAP Board of Directors since 2002. He is married to Andrea; they have three children ages 17, 7 and 3.

Alan La Rue moved to Peru from Vancouver, Canada in 1995. He is the managing director of the "EL SOL - Escuela de Español" and a founding member of the Canadian Alumni Association and the International Toastmasters Club of Peru. Alan graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Political Science in 1989 and has since worked as a journalist and educator. He created and administers the Expatriate mailing list and the ExpatPeru web page. He is married to Shirley Manrique and they have two young children, Alana and Salvador.

Frank Nagle is currently the President and CEO for Alpha-Omega Internet Security, a company providing security solutions to Lima-based organizations. Previously, he was the Chief Information Officer for TACA International Airlines.

Frank's prior board of directors experience includes having been on the BOD of the Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques SITA, a large organization that provides telecommunications and computer support to airlines.

Among his other activities in Peru, Frank is a Board Member of the Rotary Club Lima Sunrise, and the author of the monthly “Hi-Tek Peru” column for the ACAP Newsletter.

Frank lives in Pueblo Libre with his wife, Candy, and two children Francesca and Paul Julian. Frank holds a private flying lisence and enjoys flying, as well as reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing with his high-tech “toys.”

Bonnie Ludwick, a native of Reno, Nevada lives in Miraflores with her husband Bill. Bill is the head geologist at Minera Barrick Misquichilca S.A. They have been members for the last two and a half years. Bonnie is very active in the expatriate community here in Lima. Most recently, she was one of the organizers of the most successful fund raiser for Dr. Tony's hospice in Chaclacayo.

G. Shad Prashad was born in Guyana South America and has been living in Canada since 1972. He has a Computer Sciences degree and an MBA, he has worked for many years as a telecommunications specialist, a Canadian International Development Agency officer for over 23 years, and has represented Canada as head of mission and Canadian Consul in Honduras. In 2002 after his posting in Honduras, Shad took a leave of absence from the Canadian Government to rejoin the private sector and is now the General Manager for a Canadian Junior Mining Company in Peru. The Peru operations (exploration project) is in the department of La Libertad close to Tayabamba in the Province of Pataz. Married to Joan for over 30 years, Shad and Joan have three children living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Marcel Tratner was born in Brussels, Belgium, and lived a large portion of his life in Manhattan, NYC, where he graduated as an electrical engineer with an MBA in international finance. In 1977 he was sent to Madrid as the local controller for the International Paper Company, and from there he went to work for ITT in Paris and with Honeywell's regional headquarters in Brussels and Hong Kong. He finished his career in the dairy industries working for Danone in Paris and Mexico, and managing the dairy business of the Peruvian group Gloria in Bolivia. He retired in 2000 and has chosen Lima as his permanent residence as his wife, Nelly, is Peruvian. At the moment he is coordinating with the international center of Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, VA and Child Focus, in order to create this type of organization in Peru as a pilot project for South America.
