ACAP Donation to “Hogar” in Chorrillos
By Alan La Rue
Thanks to the ACAP, six abandoned children will be sleeping a little better at night. As part of our ongoing community service effort, this month the ACAP donated money to build 6 bunk beds in the girl's dormitory at the “Hogar Niño Jesus de Praga” in Chorrillos.
The “Hogar” is the work of the “Misioneras Paroquiales del Niño Jesus de Praga,” a Peruvian religious order that opened its doors to 12 children back in 1936 under the direction of Madre Angelica Recharte Corrales. Now, nearly seventy years later, more than 120 children call the “Hogar” their home. The four nuns and 20 employees feed, clothe and house the children, and even arrange transportation to and from nearby national schools.
The “Hogar” is always in need of donations. Clothing for children, school supplies, food and cash to handle everyday maintenance is welcomed. They also need volunteers to help the kids with their school work and to provide them with the emotional support they lost when their parents abandoned them.
If you would like to volunteer at the “Hogar,” contact Madre Abigail Barrera at 467-0606. The “Hogar” is easy to reach by taxi, and fluent Spanish is not a requirement, only the desire to have a positive impact on children who have had a rough start.
