Colegio Roosevelt

Interested in pursuing a Masters Degree in Education here in Lima? Colegio Roosevelt offers parents, teachers and members of the community the opportunity to complete a Masters Degree in Education by taking after school classes taught by professors from the University of Alabama. To be eligible, you must have a 4-year undergraduate degree. Each semester, visiting professors teach two week classes at Roosevelt. One class will be offered per semester and the full degree is completed by taking 10 classes and a final comprehensive exam.

Our next class, Evaluation of Classroom Learning (BER 550), will be taught by Dr. Sherry Nicholas and is open now. It will run after school and Saturdays from November 28 - December 10. If you wish to take the upcoming class, please get in touch with Gaby Gallestegui ggallast@amersol.edu.pe here at school. She can help you expedite your initial application.

Tickets for our annual school Auction and Gala are on sale now and you'll want to make sure to buy yours promptly as we have a limited number and they go fast. As many of you know, our annual Auction pulls together over 200 fabulous items - last year they included a Caribbean cruise, a luxury trip with Orient Express to Cusco and Machu Picchu, jewelry from H. Stern, as well as one of a kind items like a chance to have Grammy winning Peruvian band TK play at your next party, and the opportunity to be the Co-Pilot for race car driver Raul Orlandini in the Super Asia Car Race. We're lining up more exciting items for this year, and will once again have a wonderful gala dinner and dancing till the wee hours afterwards, so don't miss it! Newton College

In November, we have quite a few activities which will interest the general public.

One-Act Play Festival -- In this festival, organized by the British Schools of Peru, each school puts on a short play in English which is usually very entertaining. Entrance is free and there will be refreshments on sale in the intervals. The proceeds from these will go to the different schools' social service projects. The plays will be performed in the Newton Theatre and the programme this year is:

Thursday November 3rd
7.00 p.m. Markham College
8.00 p.m. Hiram Bingham

Friday November 4th
7.00 p.m. San Silvestre
7.50 p.m. Cambridge College
8.30 p.m. Newton College

Early Years Festival -- This is a fun day for pupils aged 2-6 and for their families and it will take place on Saturday, November 12th from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. It will be a good opportunity to appreciate important aspects of Newton College's Early Years curriculum.

  • Extra curricular activities: Children from 3 to 6 years old will demonstrate how much they have learnt throughout the year in the activities in which they have taken part.
  • Tómbola and raffle: There will be a grand variety of surprises in our tómbola. and excellent prices for the raffle, for example: bicycles, microwaves, a night in “Park Plaza Hotel”, scholarships in “Wellness Gym”, etc.
  • Games, rides, etc: There will be inflatable games, a miniature train and a small farm where children can learn and have fun.
  • Snacks and refreshments: We will have ice creams, pop corn, drinks, sandwiches, etc.

 

San Silvestre School

Art Exhibition -- The IB Art students are presenting their work in the San Silvestre Art Centre and can be viewed from Monday 31st October. If you would like to come along to see the display, please call 241-3334.

Special Olympics and ADCA Gymnastics -- Students of Grade 5 will be working with Special Olympics teams on Saturday, 12th November, as part of the school's solidarity programme.

On both Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th of November, the ADCA Schools' Gymnastics championship will take place in the San Silvestre Sports Centre. Visitors are warmly welcome to come along and see the really high standard of artistic gymnastics demonstrated by the students of the ADCA schools. Please contact San Silvestre for times of the competition.
