Lima Days, Restaurant Nights
(ACAP, 2005; Peru; running time, 150 minutes)
ACAP turns the camera on itself in this unforgettable documentary about the organization's Special Restaurant/Film Night, held on July 14 at the Club Empresarial in San Isidro.
Would members show up - and if so, would they pay attention to filmmaker Mitch Teplitsky and clips from his "Soy Andina" movie about Peruvian dancers - especially after a decadent meal of pastel de choclo, chicken provencal and brazo gitano? Would the presentation live up to the hype building in Lima Society and press for weeks? Would the projector work?
The film captures the behind-the-scenes drama of the days leading up to the event - and the ultimate triumph of the evening itself, in which more than 50 members came and enjoyed a great dinner, watched film clips, and shared terrific feedback. It is a riveting, real-life story about building cross-cultural community while dining.
