Rotary Club Lima Sunrise Holds Inauguration Dinner

The newest of the 53 clubs in District 4450 of Rotary International, Rotary Club Lima Sunrise, held its formal inauguration dinner May 10, 2005, at the new clubroom of Rotary Club of Lima, the oldest club in Peru and sponsor of the newest club. 29 members (most of them first time Rotarians) were inducted by Governor Atilio Castagnino of District 4450 and were welcomed by Dr Raúl Cantella, President of Rotary Club of Lima and Governor-nominee for the Rotary year July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007. Among the members of the Rotary Club Lima Sunrise are ACAP members David Jesson, Jim Louttit, Marcel Tratner, Frank Nagle, Tom Findley, Miguel Arevalo, Martin Singer, David Kone, Andrea Jesson, Liliana Weston, Murray Weston, Paul Gibbs, Larry Pitman, Harold Price, and Mitch Teplisky.

Representing the club, President Geraldina Chabes de Singer, welcomed the 100 Rotarians and guests present, promising to utilize the distinguished members of the new club which has the advantage of being English-speaking and thus able to correspond more readily with potential sponsor clubs in English speaking countries. She indicated that many humanitarian projects were already in process with the intention of presenting several when projects for the new year can be filed early in July 2005.

New projects include 12 mechanical cows which produce 100 liters per hour of delicious, nutritious milk from 10 kilos of inexpensive soy powder, which can give this healthy, nourishing beverage to 3,000 children or to older, indigent persons all over Peru. 50 cows are already in operation or in process of importation. Other projects include computers and a system for tracking missing children and controlling child abuse; much needed instrumentation for hospitals; and basic dining facilities for impoverished areas.

This is Rotary's 100th year and celebrations including the termination of polio in the world, a campaign to which Rotary has contributed over the past 20 years more than $600 million and much personal work..

Rotary Club Lima Sunrise meets every Thursday morning from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM for breakfast and will welcome new members who speak English and are interested in providing humanitarian aid through monetary and personal help as well as companionship with other Rotarians. If you are interested, please contact Martin Singer at 442-5682 or mbs@amauta.rcp.net.pe
