Candidates for ACAP Officers 2005-2006
The “official” slate of candidates, which includes many ACAP officers and directors from the past year, is shown below. Nominations for alternate candidates may be made by members present at the meeting, and election ballots will be distributed to all qualified members.
President
John Lakatos is from Cincinnati, Ohio and arrived to Peru in August 1971 to teach mathematics at the American School of Lima (Colegio Franklin D. Roosevelt). In the late '70s he was instrumental in bringing the first computers to FDR and continues today in that same arena as the Technology Director of the school, while also teaching the advanced IB Information and Communicaton Technology classes. He has been quite involved with the American & Canadian Association of Peru over the years and has served previously as a Board Member, a Vice-President, and as President in 1983-84. He is married to Rubela (Ruby), who teaches Elementary Art at Colegio Roosevelt, and they have two grown children who were educated in Peru and the US. He is known internationally for the work he has done with technology at Roosevelt and travels from time to time to share his knowledge with other Overseas American Schools around the world.
Vice President (shared position)
Jim Louttit is a native of Canada who has lived in Lima since January 2003, having arrived from El Salvador, where he spent 2 1/2 years. Jim is a vice president with Scotiabank and a member of the Board of Directors of Banco Sudamericano, their local partner. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Scotiabank Sud Americano in Chile and Scotiabank de Costa Rica, S.A. in Costa Rica. Jim has been a member of ACAP since April 2003 and a member of our Board since October 2003. He has also been on the Board of Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú since March 2003, and more recently, joined the Board of the Rotary Sunrise Club. On the more personal side, Jim's two greatest passions are; first, his granddaughter whom he doesn't get to see enough of, and secondly, in his copious free time, he enjoys a game of golf.
Treasurer
Tom Findley grew up in the U.S., Venezuela and Peru. He went to high school in the U.S. and graduated from Roanoke College in 1970 with a degree in business administration.
Tom joined Asarco Inc. in 1971, working in numerous locations, and became treasurer in 1990. He began regular travel to Peru in 1991, and in 1999 became chief financial officer of Southern Peru Copper Corporation, but shortly thereafter, the company came under new ownership and Tom found himself out of work.
He decided not to return to the corporate world, but to stay in Lima. After a short-lived effort at consulting, together with Gord Sanford, in 2002 Tom started a business in Lima to export high-end Peruvian arts and crafts to the U.S. and also opened a store in Tucson called Silver Llama Andean Designs. In early 2003,Tom also accepted the position of chief financial officer of Peru Copper Inc., a Canadian company that has the rights to the Toromocho copper deposit, and in October 2004, Tom took the company public on the Toronto stock exchange.
Tom has two children, Jackson (25) and Dan (22). Jackson is managing the store in Tucson and Dan is in his final year at American University in Washington D.C. His hobbies include travel with my soulmate Lucia Cestti, tennis, and publishing an annual dining guide called the Silver Llama Guide.
Directors
Richard J. Ajello was born in 1922 in New York City. He attended Columbia University at night until Nov. 1942, when he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force until discharged in October 1945. After the war, he earned a degree in International Relations and French at Carleton College, where he met his future Peruvian wife, leaving for Lima, where he was married in 1948.
Following a stint with a radio station in New York, he returned to Peru in May 1953, where he founded Telemusica S.A., dedicated to functional background music and sophisticated sound system installations. In 1960, he put Lima's first F.M. Radio Station on the air, Stereolima 100 F.M., and conducted his own program in English, Great Moments of Comedy, heard every Sunday morning at 10:30 A.M. In June 1994, he founded Instituto Tecnologico Orson Welles offering 3 years of studies in technical sound engineering.
Richard has been a board member of AMCHAM, ICPNA and The American Society, and belongs to the Country Club of Villa, Club de la Banca and The Lima Golf Club. He has been condecorated by the governments of France, Poland, and Bulgaria, and has twice been condecorated by the Asociation de Radio y Televisión del Perú for his invaluable contribution to the development of Radio and Television in Peru.
Tanilee Eichelberger is a native of the northern California hills above Silicon Valley. She was born into a bilingual family environment, having an American father working in high tech and Peruvian mother in dentistry. She has years of extensive event coordinating and public relations experience in multicultural and international communities. With a bachelor's degree from UCLA in World Arts and Cultures, her expertise includes co-producing international art exhibitions, concerts and festivals in the United States and South America. She has lead workshops and presented her work to Central and Latin American social justice organizers through UCSC Social Change Across Borders Institute. She participated with UCLA Cultural Affairs Commissions managing responsibilities as an event coordinator, and played a major role in obtaining over $5,000 in funding for WorldFest. Tanilee has worked for the Center for Intercultural Performance as well as World Arts West managing international artists on a project basis. Her prior professional activities in Peru have included teaching dance to children and being Outreach Coordinator for Voluntarios Sin Fronteras.
Tanilee currently manages South American Explorers Club in Lima. She regularly enjoys the gym and dancing after work and on weekends can be found reading, traveling, cooking, playing the flute and spending quality time with family and friends.
Connie Estrada has been a director of the Association before, from 1982-1992 when she served as the Welfare Chairman. She is a nurse at the Health Clinic at the US Embassy since 1976. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and has 3 sons, who all reside in the United States. Her husband, Julio, works for PetroPeru.
David Jesson is a native of Los Angeles who has had a long and varied career that began in the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1980, then lead him to work with Atlantic Aviation Management from 1980 to 1995, when he was also at Creative Cooking Schools, worked as a private caterer and as an Engine Captain at the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Department. In 1999, David earned a BA in Ministry Development at GWWM Bible College. Since moving to Peru in 2001, he has founded the NGO Dream Center Peru - Mission Center and Leadership School, and established the Lima International Church, where he is currently Senior Pastor.
David plans on living permanently in Peru, and has been a member of the ACAP Board of Directors since 2002. He is married to Andrea; they have three children ages 16, 6 and 2.
Alan La Rue moved to Peru from Vancouver, Canada in 1995. He is the managing director of the "EL SOL - Escuela de Español" and a founding member of the Canadian Alumni Association and the International Toastmasters Club of Peru. Alan graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Political Science in 1989 and has since worked as a journalist and educator. He created and administers the Expatriate mailing list and the ExpatPeru web page. He is married to Shirley Manrique and they have two young children, Alana and Salvador.
Frank Nagle is currently the CEO for Alpha-Omega Internet Security, a Peruvian company specializing in installation and monitoring of computer systems to prevent failures due to viruses, Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, and Trojan programs. The company also provides training and education to company employees to prevent internal problems. Previously, he was the CIO for TACA International Airlines.
Frank's prior board of directors experience includes having been on the BOD of the Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques - SITA, a large organization that provides telecommunications and computer support to airlines.
Among his other activities in Peru, Frank is a Board Member of the Rotary Club - Lima Sunrise, and the author of the monthly “Hi-Tek Peru” column for the ACAP Newsletter.
Frank lives in Pueblo Libre, Lima, Peru with his wife, Candy, and two children Francesca and Paul Julian. An avid reader, he enjoys action, mystery and historical fiction, a dye-in-the-wool gadget geek he uses his Palm for audio, video, reference and of course agenda, and a dedicated parent he spends time daily with his son and daughter.
The Very Rev'd John H Park is Dean of the Anglican Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Miraflores. He was born in 1945 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, of an American father and Canadian mother. He grew up in Beaver Falls, spending every summer in Harbourville, Nova Scotia, close to his mother's home. He received his BA from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, and his AM from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He attended Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and received his MDiv from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, Texas.
While in seminary he helped to found and pastor what is today the Church of San Francisco de Asís, Austin, Texas. After ordination, he served on the staff of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas, and the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, Abilene, Texas. From 1985 to 2003 he served as a missionary in Honduras, opening seven churches in that time and serving for the last 12 years as Archdeacon of Honduras.
Since August of last year he has been Dean of the Good Shepherd. He has served on the Boards of Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, El Hogar Ministries (which he served as president), Honduras Hope Foundation (vice-president) and is currently the vice-president of the Board of the Anglican Diocese of Peru. Dean Park is married to Susan Delgado-Park, and they have two sons, Robert (18) and James (15), both of whom are with them in Lima.
James Plunkett, or Jim as he is known to all, is originally from New England, and has resided in Peru for 37 years. Jim has been a mining equipment salesman traveling the Andes, a leading exporter of handicrafts and more recently, he has been very active in the Lima community. He has been Vice President and General Manager of the American Chamber of Commerce, director of ADEX, the exporters association, a member of the Fulbright Commission, and director of the American-Canadian Association, and has been the MC for the U.S. government wives annual Christmas party for the deaf, dumb, and blind children during the last 15 years.
Marcel Tratner was born in Brussels, Belgium, and lived a large portion of his life in Manhattan, NYC, where he graduated as an electrical engineer with an MBA
in international finance. In 1977 he was sent to Madrid as the local controller for the International Paper Company, and from there he went to work for ITT in Paris
and with Honeywell's regional headquarters in Brussels and Hong Kong. He finished his career in the dairy industries working for Danone in Paris and Mexico, and managing the dairy business of the Peruvian group Gloria in Bolivia. He retired in 2000 and has chosen Lima as his permanent residence as his wife, Nelly, is Peruvian. At the moment he is coordinating with the international center of Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, VA and Child Focus, in order to create this type of organization in Peru as a pilot project for South America.
