The Dream Center Perú:
A Mission Center Bringing Hope to a Nation

The Dream Center Perú (DCP), established in Lima, Peru in 2001, does exactly what its tagline says: it brings hope to the nation of Peru. While giving hope to an entire nation may sound like a large task, the DCP has learned to do so through many different faculties, each centered on the idea of multiplication.

The Dream Center Perú's approach to spreading hope all starts with the Intern Program. Youth from all over the nation are offered a one-year, full-ride scholarship, including room and board, and are taught to be leaders in their communities. During their internship at the DCP, these youth are taught skills such as Project Management, Leadership, English, Children's Education, Computers, Graphic Design, How to Work with their Peers, Community Development, Multi Media, Administration, and much more. In addition to these practical skills, each intern is taught to have hope, to serve others, and to follow the dreams that others have always said were unattainable. After their year as an Intern, each youth either returns to their community to train others with the skills and knowledge that he/she has learned at the DCP, or remains at the DCP as an apprentice, focusing on a specific field such as Leadership, Multi Media, or Children's Education. Currently training youth from 11 of Peru's Departments, the DCP has the goal of at equipping at least one youth from each of Peru's 24 Departments within the next 3 years.

On a daily basis, the Dream Center Perú goes into some of Lima's poorest shanty-town areas and shares hope with mothers and children. Working in Zapallál, El Paraíso in San Juan de Lurigancho, and Los Rosales, Bolognesi, and Juan Pablo II in Los Olivos, the DCP teaches morals and values to over 2,000 children a week! Through songs, skits, and building relationships, the children learn lessons that will stay with them for a lifetime, positively influencing this generation of future leaders. While the children are having fun and learning, the mothers are involved in “charlas” that allow them to get together with other women from the community and talk about real-life issues such as motherhood, childrearing, and marriage. The DCP continues to see the lives of these mothers and children changed, as they become the leaders of the groups and begin to share with others the things they learn from the DCP.

“Abundante - More Than a Cooking Show” is a cooking show filmed, produced, and edited by Dream Center Perú Interns and Apprentices. Aimed at raising Peruvian tourism and the exportation of Peruvian products to other nations, this show is currently being shown in over 100 nations, with a potential audience of 300 million. “Abundante,” currently filming its second season, shows off some of Peru's most beautiful landscapes all while showing how to prepare recipes using products grown in Peru. Whether it be papayas in the jungle, honey at the zoo, coffee in the south, or potatoes in the mountains, each episode of “Abundante” gives people in other countries a reason to make Peru or Peruvian products a part of their lives.

As you can see, the DCP is truly making a difference in their community and all over the nation of Peru. Be it the children in the shanty towns, the youth from the jungles and mountains, or the farmers in the field, people all over the nation of Peru are being shown a new kind of hope through the Dream Center Perú!
