New Canadian Ambassador - Arrives to Peru

Geneviève des Rivières, Canada's Ambassador-Designate to Peru, arrived in Lima in late August.
Mrs. des Rivières did her undergraduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan and at the University of Ottawa. She holds a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Ottawa.
Between 1979 and 1982 she worked in Ottawa as a legislative assistant at the House of Commons and as press officer at the Office of the European Community in London, UK.
Mrs. des Rivières joined the Department of External Affairs in 1982 and served abroad in Santiago, Chile and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as Trade Commissioner. In Ottawa, she undertook a variety of assignments including Deputy Director, Tariffs and Market Access Division and Director, Corporate Planning and Program Analysis in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
Between 1996 and 2000, Mrs. des Rivières was Counsellor responsible for Trade, Investment, Science and Technology at the Canadian High Commission in London. In August 2000, she was appointed Minister Counsellor responsible for Commercial/Economic Affairs and trade policy at the Canadian Embassy in Mexico.
Mrs. des Rivières is married to Paul Brazeau.
