Jean Louis and the Land of the Lost Boys (Part 2)

This is how we entered remote CIMA's even more remote back door. Through the eucalyptus trees we viewed acres of cultivated land. As if on queue, a short man appeared to greet us.

“Buenos dias. I'm Sebastian Franco, manager of the agriculture and animal husbandry areas.”

Foreign Direct Investment in Peru
Foreign direct investment – FDI – is an investment by someone from one country in an enterprise in another country. But there's more – in order to qualify for analytical purposes as FDI, the investment has to seek a “lasting interest” in the enterprise. This means that the investor wants a long term relationship and a significant degree of influence on the enterprise. This does not necessarily mean

ACAP Activities - Night on the Town

November saw the innauguration of a new “concept” night organized by the ACAP in our effort to attract a new generation of members. The first “Night on the Town” was held at The Si Señor restaurant/pub in old Miraflores. This was an informal gathering over natchos and beer and over thirty people took part. The stand-up dynamic in a pub setting made it easy to mingle and meet new people.

The success of the event was positive news for the committee that organized it , which is headed by ACAP Director Tom Findley. The mission of the committee is to attract younger members through affordable social events. Be on the lookout for upcoming “Nights Out”. Already on the agenda are a coffee house night, a chifa buffet, and a bowling excursion that includes a prize of US$1,000,000. Now that I really have your attention, I hope you will join us.

ACAP Celebrates Christmas

An exquisitely restored mansion in Barranco opened its garden to seventy five ACAP members for the annual Christmas Party. We had a tour of the house, pisco sours and a wonderful buffet dinner. As a special treat, we had a wine tasting by Enrique Cantt.

Foreign Investment in Peru Skyrockets

Peru's economy has become the envy of Latin America and it shows few signs of slowing down. Free trade agreements with the United States, Canada and other countries; investment grade ratings from Standard & Poor's and Fitch; growth rates that lead Latin America; much higher levels of exports; and low inflation make the country a textbook example of what to do right. No statistic is more impressive than direct foreign investment which is a true measure of what investors think about a country.
