American Women's Literary Club

The American Women's Literary Club (AWLC) meets on the first Monday of every month at 3pm from April through December at the Chase Hall at Union Church.

Canadian Women's Club

The Canadian Women's Club (CWC) is open to all expats! Not only Canadians. The CWC is all about fostering friendships, providing support for newcomers to Peru, and helping local charities. The CWC meets on the third Thursday of every month in a member's home and organises outings – anything from museum visits to cooking classes – on the fourth Thursday of the month. Toastmasters in Lima

There are two clubs:

The International Toastmasters Club of Peru meets every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Centro Parroquail Nuestra Senora del Carmen sited at Paseo de la Republica, which is located at the Carmelitas Parish, San Antonio. The Lima Toastmasters Club meets every Thursday from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Lima Cricket and Football Club, Justo Vigil 200 (Block 7 of Av. Ejercito, beside the Larco Herrera hospital). Call Jim at 445-4019 or Cesar Montoya at 434-0060 for more information.

Jewish Synagogue Asociación Judía de Beneficencia y Culto de 1870 Libertad 375, Miraflores. Tel: (511) 445-1089 Religious services are Fridays at 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Worship is in Hebrew and Spanish, however for English speaking visitors who come to the worship in the synagogue there are a few prayer books in English. Canadian and American visitors are welcome, but Rabbi Guillermo Bronstein asks that you please call first to let him know you will be coming.

Think of typhoid fever, salmonella, e-coli, the flu, colds as being spread primarily by unwashed hands. Many of the campaigns to stay healthy during the H1N1 flu period included teaching about hand washing.

From Vargas Llosa to the Huaconada

During the last few years, Peru has increasingly been recognized abroad for its robust economic performance, diverse tourist attractions and numerous cultural achievements.

Over the last couple of months, Peru's cultural achievements have come to the forefront with Peruvians receiving some of the highest accolades. Most notably, this includes the Nobel in Literature for Mario Vargas Llosa, who became the first Latin American since Mexico's Octavio Paz in 1990 to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
