We would like to remind all members of the American & Canadian Association of Peru that the Annual General Meeting will be held in January at the residence of the United States Ambassador. The election for 2008´s ACAP Board of Directors will be held at this meeting, which will be during the second half of January at the US Ambassador's residence. We are still awaiting confirmation of the date from his office. It will be a dinner, free for all members, after which we will have the meeting.
We urge all members to attend. For further information on this event, contact the ACAP office.

President: Michael DeBakey (Director 2007)
Michael M. DeBakey, 68, is a US citizen, who has been a resident of Lima, Peru for over 47 years. He is a graduate of the University of the South, and the American Institute for Foreign Trade. He was Managing Director of Texaco, Inc. in Perú for 7 years, and then in 1967 founded Interamerican Development Representatives SA, the representative for General Dynamics Corporation (USA) and was instrumental in the sale and financing of several aircraft to different South American Airlines. In 1968, he founded the RECEPTOUR Group, a series of firms related to tourism and hotels, such as the Hotel Libertador in Cuzco which became the first Marriott hotel in Peru, as well as hotels in Puno, Iquitos and Arequipa, an Amazon cruise ship, the Amazon Lodge in Iquitos, and was the General Agent for PAN AMERICAN airlines for 17 years. In 2000 the Group was sold to Ultramar International of Chile. Mr. DeBakey has been a Director of the South American Travel Organization SATO, founding President of the ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) Chapter for Perú, Bolivia, & Ecuador, and has been a member of the Special Advisory Board to the Ministry of industry & Tourism, as well as the Lima Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Borad of FOPTUR, and was founder, first President and Director several times of the Peruvian Association of Tour Operators
APOTUR, and President of the AMCHAM Tourism Comité. At present, Mr. DeBakey divides his time breeding Peruvian Paso horses, his Business interests, and his Peruvian wife Techi, and their 8 children and 16 grandchildren.
